ELSE'S STORY
Housed within the iconic conserved Lee Rubber Building in downtown Kuala Lumpur, Else Kuala Lumpur is poised to be a new beacon for the burgeoning neighborhood. Founded by architecture-trained Justin Chen & concept creator Javier Perez, Else was built out of the desire to experience city travel at an alternative pace, which would share the benefits of living presently and truly engaging with your surroundings.
Justin's commitment to showcasing and energising local communities is evident in his mantra of 'globally connected, locally rooted'. He is driven by the belief that there is immense potential to create meaningful initiatives that contribute back to the local community.
CHECK-IN
Stepping out of a 50-minute taxi drive from Kuala Lumpur's airport immediately transcends you into a mid-19th-century metropolis steeped in history and culture. Passing the beautifully high doors of Else's entrance, adorned with intricate designs that spoke of a bygone era, we were enveloped by a sense of nostalgia and comfort.
The friendly concierge greeted us warmly, swiftly taking charge of our bags and ushering us towards the waiting elevator that would whisk us up to the first floor and the welcoming embrace of the reception area. Here, a creatively brewed welcoming drink awaited us, a delightful introduction to the charms of this historic city.
SUITS VS ELSE SUITE
We've discovered that each suite is truly a unique experience. Filled with textured natural materials, organic-shaped furniture, and soft cotton bed linens, staying here envelops you in serene luxury. The comfortable bathroom features Aesop amenities, adding a touch of indulgence to your stay.
All suites are thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need for a relaxing retreat: a spacious closet, locally tailored linen bathrobes and slippers, a convenient coffee maker, a well-stocked mini-bar, complimentary bottles of water, and a selection of healthy snacks to enjoy at your leisure.
The suite that captivates us the most is undeniably the Else suite, distinguished by its meticulous attention to design in every corner. This suite is adorned with a textured bedhead, vibrant art pieces, a spacious living area boasting a widescreen TV, an expansive L-shaped balcony, a well-appointed kitchen counter with a charming table setup, a walk-in closet for added convenience, and a modern luxurious bathroom offering a stunning city view from the shower, complete with a relaxing bathtub and an elegant jade marble sink showcasing a selection of premium Aesop amenities.
RETREAT IN-HOUSE
The two upper floors of Else offer an inviting retreat within the property, featuring a well-equipped gym, exfoliating salt-water floatation pods for relaxation, a library stocked with encyclopedias and reading material, versatile working and meeting spaces, art galleries showcasing local talent, a cozy sunken living room for unwinding, and a dedicated gratitude space ideal for private yoga sessions, meditation, or quiet reflection.

FLAVOUR FUSIONS
What we absolutely loved about Else is the offer of two different restaurants in-house of the hotel. The diverse culinary options catered to our varying tastes and provided two delightful dining experiences during our stay.
Raw Kitchen Hall and Yellow Fin Horse collaborate to curate an exceptional dining affair by seamlessly blending locally sourced produce and international flavors. This harmonious fusion guarantees a dining experience that transcends boundaries and lingers in your memory long after the meal ends.
A FINAL NOTE
During our time in Else, we were deeply impressed by the strong sense of community that permeated the establishment. This feeling was not only evident among the staff but also extended to the relationships between guests. It was clear to us that we departed as more than just customers; we left as friends of the hotel who had been embraced like family.
